What does the future of crime reduction look like in New Orleans? I tried to tackle that very issue in an opinion piece on the cover of Gambit Weekly this week.

You can read the whole thing on the above link as it lays out why I’m optimistic about our long term potential though major improvements over the near term seem unlikely. Growing the NOPD seems of paramount concern for the city which can best be understood by the below four graphs. These show the fairly strong correlation between increasing NOPD and decreasing various crime types.
